Option to not use Repeat Symbol (%)
Andrew Klein
Love the app and appreciate the % style repeat-measure feature being added, and I also just voted for the enhancement to said feature of creating the option to add a number over the repeat symbol for multiple measures. That would be super helpful for writing charts! But for teaching, sometimes I want to visually show consecutive measures of the same pattern without the app defaulting to filling in those repeated measures automatically with the % repeat symbol. It would be great if, when selecting a “duplicate” option, there was a sub option of “use repeat symbol vs. view notation,” and then if “%” is selected offer a sub option of “show single measure with % symbol and a number vs. show every measure with % symbol.

Hello Derek , amazing app and my students are loving it . We have a class and I sent the PDFs right away . Now to the topic ; I’m also having the same situation with the repetition sign % like for my teaching and students it’s not really working . They want to see and read the next bar even if it is the same as the previews one . I’m also writing songs for them so the moment they see the repetition sign they don’t like it . As an educator I understand that and if it was for my own chart I’m fine with it . But for teaching songs and sharing with them it’s not really working . I will really appreciate if we can have the two options as Andrew is saying above “use repeat symbol vs view notation . Thank you

Thanks for this Andrew Klein! I've heard similar feedback from other educators depending on the level of the student.
Along with this, I'm finding that teachers have a number of different aspects of the notation that each student has a preference for.. so I'm exploring the idea that choosing whether a measure repeat symbol is shown or not is not actually the composer's choice, but in fact the reader's choice, and exploring how this could be implemented in a way for the reader to choose. More to come!

Derek Lee my preference would be to specify how I want it to look (particularly for PDF exports) but like the idea that the reader can override that potentially.
Have you heard of Soundslice? It allows the creator to set default display options with the option for the user to change them. Works quite well

Thanks Derek Lee for considering my suggestion and taking it a step further. I dig the concept of the reader being able to select either option; however, that’s only relevant for digital versions of a piece of music. I think it would be particularly useful for educators (like me) to be able to cc lose one or the other before printing copies to hand out to students. That said, I often use an iPad on certain gigs and being able to shorten the length of charts using a repeat symbol would be particularly useful.

Ross Farley Thanks for the comment! While I am familiar with SoundSlice I honestly haven't used it much. Sounds like they offer similar functionality which might be worth taking a look at for inspiration.
Andrew Klein Thanks Andrew and yes I agree 100% - as Ross mentions above, having the compose make a choice but allowing the reader to override. Both are important - I've just heard from more educators communicating the experience of their students, not only as it relates to measure repeat symbols, but also to other parts of the notation (e.g. voicing). (And also please accept my apologies for the delayed response; still catching up from the UK Drum Show and prepping for PASIC so this is a busy season! 😅)
This is a great example of how community feedback - both from the educator and from the students - helps to unlock the evolution of features. I would like to thank everyone who's taken the time to share this feedback and for your patience as I work towards solutions that address the needs of each user. 🙏🏻

I’d also appreciate this for teaching
